Automatically assigning Decline Reasons is a great time saver and is recommended if you automatically decline applications.  Decline Reasons are managed in the Decision Matrix - the same place you indicate which applications will be declined.  Each cell containing "Decline" as the decision, has the option to assign Decline Reasons.

 

When using a Credit Risk Score (also called a Bureau Score) or an Application Risk Score (such as Fast Start) you will have the option to indicate how many Score Factor reasons will be used as Decline Reasons.  Since each score has up to four (4) reasons, you can select from 0-4 Score Factors.

 

When using any other variable, you have the option to enter one text reason that is associated with the variable used.

 

In the example below, the Decision Matrix contains one score (Fast Start) and one other variable (Age of Vehicle).  The right column represents a complete range where applications will be automatically declined because of the Age of Vehicle because this lender does not finance vehicles that are more than 10 years old.

 

 

Since all of these will be declined for the same reason, all three "Decline" cells may be selected at once by clicking and dragging to select the range or by using Ctrl+Click. For these cells, the dominant reason was the vehicle age and not the score - at least for the top two cells.  So we will leave the number of reasons (Fast Start Score Factors) set to zero and will enter a text reason for the decline.

 

 

For the bottom left cell, the Age of Vehicle is not a factor; only the Fast Start score is.  So we determine how many of the top Score Factors will be included in the Decline Reasons by selecting a number from the Top [#] Reasons pick list.  In this case, we select three (3).

 

 

Finally, for the bottom right cell, the Decline is due to a combination of a poor Fast Start score and the Age of Vehicle.  So both of these factors should be included in the Decline Reasons assigned to the application.  So we use the Top 2 Reasons (Fast Start Score Factors) and the text reason: "CU Does Not Finance Vehicles More Than 10 Yrs Old".
