Decision Manager allows a user to copy a custom rule from one product and paste it to custom rules in another product.
The feature implemented is to be able to select a Rule, copy and then paste it. This can be done via the toolbar menu buttons, or via the right-click menu popup in the Custom Rules sections.
The feature details are as follows:
- A rule can be copied whether the product is in Edit mode or not, from any environment
- A rule can be pasted only if the product is in Edit mode
- Copied rules can only be pasted to the same section, ie, copied Term rules can only be pasted to the Term rule section
- Copied rules can be pasted to another product
- Only one rule can be copied at a time
- Upon paste, the Rule Editor screen comes up
- the user can save the rule as pasted or make changes then save
- Some scenarios require the user to make changes as the copied rule may not directly apply in the new product, as the Special Cases described below.
Special Cases:
Approved Tier variable - when the Approved Tier variable is used in a copied rule, the following can occur upon paste:
- if pasting to the same product, all is good
- if pasting to a different product:
- if the text value of Approved Tier in the rule is available in the new product, then it should carry over
- if the text value of Approved Tier in the rule is not available in the new product, then the value is blank in the Rule Editor, and the user must select a value
Variables that are not available in the paste location
- if a variable used in the copied rule is not available in the paste location, then the Rule Editor will show up, but the variable and value for that unavailable variable will be blank
